Status Report - 1 June 2026

May was hectic but productive. I mean seriously.

Short Story (working title “Recalled”) - Officially on the back burner. I’ll probably put what I have on the Patreon at some point for you guys to take a look at.

Criminal From Birth sequel - Still with editor. It’s been rough. Still mulling over the title.

LitRPG book (working title Subscription Life) - That serious rewrite of chapter one is well underway! Well, let me back up. Last month I had 1445 words written on draft 1 on chapter 1. I got that up to 2159 and completed it, then started the second draft. Second draft is up to 1236 words, and compared to the first draft, I’m only about 1/3 of the way through!

June’s schedule settled down some, so it won’t be quite as insane and I should be able to dedicate more time to writing, especially since I’ll be on GM break from my usual D&D gig. I’m really finally starting to sink into Subscription Life, getting that itch.

April was again, very lean, but again, what words I did get out were good.

Short Story (working title “Recalled”) - I think I’m leaving this one on the burner for now. Once I get some time and revisit, I’ll either finish it or maybe put up what I have for your opinions.

Criminal From Birth sequel - Still with editor. It’s been rough. Still mulling over the title.

LitRPG book (working title Subscription Life) - This (and blog posts and D&D) are where most of my writing effort has gone this month. Not as much as I wanted, but good ones. I’m working on the first chapter, feeling out my main character, and I’m liking it so far. I’ve gotten 1445 words written on it! This is going to need some serious rewrite, but I’ve been enjoying doing these immediate rewrites to really set things up properly, get into the details early.

Here comes May. It’s gonna get nuts heading into the latter half of the month and into June. Wish me luck!

I legit don’t know where March went. Between a sudden theatre tech gig that took up most of a week and prepping for con season to really get going, I didn’t manage as much writing as I wanted, but I’ll say the writing I did do was good.

Short Story (working title “Recalled”) - No updates this month. Still at around 1800 words. Crap. This makes two months in a row. I’m at the point I need to go reread what I’ve already done and decide if I actually want to pursue anymore.

Criminal From Birth sequel - Still with editor. It’s been rough. I might have a title though.  Still haven’t decided.

LitRPG book (working title Subscription Life) - I only managed to write one more scene, though once again, I wrote it twice. First version was 448 words, second was 781 and again, so much better. More full.

So we’ll say 1224 written on it. I need to do better. My time is about to be at a premium come May, so I really hope to make April better for word-making.

GAH SHORT MONTH!!! I still got… a little done.

Short Story (working title “Recalled”) - No updates this month. Still at around 1800 words. Crap.

Criminal From Birth sequel - Still with editor. I need to light a fire under their butt. I might have a title though.

LitRPG book (working title Subscription Life) - I HAVE STARTED WRITING! It’s not much yet, but here’s what I have:

I wrote the first scene of the prologue and had it at about 1150 words. In an upcoming free post, I’ll actually talk about that. Long story short, I wrote it again and it came out to 2144 words. So for me, it’s not a lot, but for what I’ve been cranking out lately, it’s a ton, and I’m very happy with it!

2026 came out swinging, and I wasn’t able to get a lot done on writing because… well, I’ve already talked about it. The Chain Nerd is taking some major priority. That said, here’s where we are as of the beginning of February:

D&D Single Adventure - I’m going to pull this from the list. As much as I want it to be a priority, it can’t be right now. I may pick on it sometimes as I get the drive. If I finish it, you’ll know.

Short Story (working title “Recalled”) - No updates this month. Still at around 1800 words. Crap.

Criminal From Birth sequel - Still with editor. I need to light a fire under their butt.

LitRPG book (working title Subscription Life) - THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET EXCITING! I HAVE A FINISHED OUTLINE!

Okay, let me clarify. I have the first draft of a finished outline. What I figured out in the last few chapters adds a new layer of information I’ll need to seed in the first 1/3 or so of the book, so I’m updating the outline to make sure the flow of that story arc, but this is much easier work than straight blank outlining.

First outline draft: 56 chapters (up 21 from last month)

(Hopefully) final outline: 21 chapters (YES, I DID 42 CHAPTERS TOTAL)

This goes pretty quick since I’m just updating the info I already have. It’s more like editing. But once this is done (hopefully this month) I get to start WRITING THE BOOK!

May, I am so glad you're past and I survived you. June has come in like a breath of fresh air, and I'm poised and ready to go. Let's do this!

CURRENT PROJECTS May 5 2025
  • Dungeons & Dragons campaign 1: Bard Campaign - Session #7 fully planned. We played session 6 the Friday before Memorial Day, and it went SO. FREAKING. WELL. I was floored at how much fun both I and the players had. It was the first session with them I've done on a new planning method, and it absolutely paid off in spades. I still have a lot of learning to do, but it was insanely rewarding and fun on all sides. Session 7 was done with an older planning method, so it will be a step back, but once that's past, we'll be totally in my new streamlined planning method.
  • D&D campaign 2: Tootskies Campaign - Session 2 is in prep. Session 1 went really well last month. We should be playing Session 2 on the 18th, so I still have a couple weeks to plan. Which is good because I need to get my brain together for it. But planning should be a lot easier now. Developing my methods for prep and play with this second campaign is seriously helping a lot.
  • D&D Single Adventure - No progress. I was right that this took a backseat to just staying afloat on everything through May. June's weekends are going to be insane, but not quite the way May's were... and the other jobs have passed, so I have my weekdays back for work. I'll be getting a lot more done on this in June. I really hope to have this first one done this month.
  • Criminal from Birth sequel - This was the project most of my wordy time went to in May. Some of these chapters were a struggle to focus on, but not because they're bad or boring. It was totally my brain not wanting to focus. Call it a symptom of the frantically busy month. Second Draft Status: 26 of 37 chapters edited. (7 since last update.) At this rate, we should be done with this draft by the end of July at the latest!
  • Magic Items book - Outline Status: Roughly 60-65% through with planning, maybe? No progress this month, which is fine. Because... it's going on the back burner for now. I have decided I want to totally restart. I don't like where the last third of the book was going, and I need to set up things better with a better ending direction. I want to let it marinate in the back of my brain in favor of...
  • LitRPG book (Subscription: Life) - Yeah, yeah, I don't need another project... except I do. With the CFB sequel draft nearing completion, it's going to go to beta readers after that, and I'll need another big project. There's the magic items book above, which I may go back and tweak too. But I've been wanting to write LitRPG for a while, and I had a basic idea ages ago I developed and cast aside. But I think I got the last piece of that old idea, and I want to develop this idea, at least for a while. So we'll see what happens.
Working title for the original title was Subscription: Life, so I'll probably keep that as a working title for right now. It may not quit the idea as it develops, but it's something for now!
  • New Short Story (My Stories) - I only picked at this with a couple sentences in May. Ready to try and get it done this month!
